There have been many national heroes in Korean history for more than five millennia, but none can be compared to Yi Soon Sin, who saved Korea (Joseon) from collapse during the Japanese invasion of 1592. During the invasion, he did not allow a single Japanese ship to land on the Korean Peninsula , cutting off the supply of Japanese troops and defeating the famous Japanese leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Admiral Yi retains a place in the hearts of the Koreans to this day. In a nationwide poll conducted by Soonchunhyang University in April 2005, Yi Soon Sin was voted the greatest personality in Korean history by 43.8 % of the votes.
It is therefore very unfortunate that Yi´s noble life and the wonderful deeds he has done for his country are not known outside Korea. Admiral Yi set a battle record that is unparalleled in history. Genghis Khan lost two battles out of twenty, where he fought, Napoleon Bonaparte four battles out of twenty-three, Emperor Friedrich four battles out of twelve, Hannibal one battle out of five. Admiral Yi fought twenty-three naval battles and was never defeated. He overcame incredible hedikepes in terms of the number of ships and divisions, led his navy to victory in every battle during the seven years of war with Japan, and lost only two of his ships.
Yi was the inventor of the warship with iron plates known as the Turtle Ship (Kobukson).
Of the twenty-three naval battles in which Admiral Yi participated, the most important were the Battle of Hansan and the Battle of Myongnyang. In the Battle of Hansan, the largest naval battle in history, Yi, through his famous "Little Wing" formations, achieved great victory by sinking and capturing fifty-nine of the seventy-three Japanese ships facing it, destroying Hideyoshi´s plan to advance along the coast. . The Battle of Myongnyang, in which he defeated 130 enemy ships with 13 of his own, is considered a miracle among naval historians.
Yi is often compared to Admiral Nelson and Admiral Togo. All three men were heroes who fought for the fate of their country and save their countrymen from the foreign invasion. However, the circumstances of Nelson´s battle at Trafalgar and Togo´s battle of Tsushima are markedly different from the battle of Myongnyang.
At the Battle of Trafalgar, England, a nation traditionally strong at sea, faced an enemy who was inexperienced in naval wars at the time, and who commanded a fleet not much larger than England (27 English ships against 33 French and Spanish ships). In the case of the Battle of Tsushimi, the Japanese navy also had the upper hand in many ways. The Russian crews of the Baltic Fleet were exhausted after a seven-month voyage around half the world, Russian crews from the Arctic suffered from diseases while sailing in the equator. In view of the above, it is only a small surprise that the intensively trained Japanese navy with high morale fighting near Japan has won over the depressed Russian military forces.
I was wrongly accused of betraying the king, however, despite this accusation, he remained loyal to the country and continued to lead the ships into battle. This pattern ends with a left-hand attack, symbolizing the deplorable death of this warrior in the last battle of the seven-year war and the inability to defend his allegiance to the king.
Pattern is practised by the 1. Gup holder and above.
